5 must-visit cities in Spain

Spain, the country of paella, sangria, and flamenco dancing. A land of sun-soaked beaches and gorgeous mountains. It’s no wonder that so many people want to visit this beautiful destination! But with so many cities in Spain to choose from (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia) where should you go? We’ve put together a list of five must-see Spanish cities for your next vacation.

Madrid

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the largest municipality in both the Community of Madrid and Spain as a whole. The city has almost three million inhabitants with a metropolitan area population of approximately six million.

It is the third-largest city in the European Union, after London and Berlin, and its monocentric metropolitan area is the third-largest in the European Union after those of London and Paris.

Barcelona

Barcelona is an amazing city to visit. From the beautiful architecture, history and food you will have a blast exploring this wonderful place. The best way to explore Barcelona is by walking. There are plenty of tour groups that offer guided tours but be aware they can get very pricey.

Barcelona is a very old city and it shows. You can spend hours walking around the Gothic Quarter, which was once the Roman Wall. This quarter also houses some of the best food in all of Spain so be sure to try as many dishes as you can.

La Sagrada Familia is one must-see site when visiting Barcelona. It’s an amazing church that took almost 80 years to complete due to constant financial issues for its architect Gaudi. There are guided tours but I would recommend seeing this beautiful piece of architecture on your own time because there are so many smaller details you will miss if you don’t have enough time to explore yourself.

I mentioned Seville earlier as being an amazing city filled with great places to eat and drink, but there is even more waiting for visitors. The cathedral has beautiful architecture inside and out; the Giralda Tower offers panoramic views of the city from above; Triana used to be where all sailors lived before they sailed away on their adventures across the world etc.
